  • Valerie James

    Biography
    Valerie James has 27 years experience in health care and university sectors as clinician, general manager, independent consultant, strategist, lecturer and researcher. She is a Corporate Psychologist and she is also a qualified teacher with 20 years experience of, and a particular interest in adult learning including emotional and political literacy. Valerie focuses on ways of helping people find creative ways of managing change and conflict. She was a Research Fellow (Medical Sociologist) at York University's Centre for Health Economics and an Associate of the University of Papua Guinea . Particular areas of interest include qualitative research methods. As an independent consultant Valerie's work has been wide ranging and includes Project Manager to the DOH funded national Action on Clinical Audit Project , facilitated various cultural mergers between large, complex London healthcare organisations, and carried out detailed diagnosis over 6 months of multi-disciplinary and multi-sector learning needs. When Valerie was a line manager she worked at first line level and at a district health authority before becoming a Regional Head of Quality for a Thames Region, where she designed a strategy for quality improvement for 150 health care organisations. Valerie has also contributed to three national steering groups on healthcare quality.

    Areas of expertise
    Valerie designs and directs experiential leadership programmes for senior clinicians and managers in the public sector. She also provides executive coaching for individuals and teams at this level.
